Our Story
Firefly Hills is a proud family owned and operated destination for RV camping in Kentucky.
In 2020, Tonja and Troy packed up their RV, their youngest child, and a sense of adventure, and set off to travel the United States full time. They explored national parks, small towns, and wide open spaces, all while educating their son from the road. During their travels, Tonja’s mom passed away after a short illness. Losing both parents at a relatively young age left a deep imprint. They had worked hard their entire lives yet barely had the chance to enjoy a peaceful retirement. Tonja and Troy felt called to invest the legacy they left behind into something that would honor them in a way that mattered. Something rooted in family, community, and the belief that life is meant to be lived fully.
Tonja’s dad nurtured her love for the outdoors and her mom had a gift for loving people. Building an RV park that was intentionally inclusive and offered a homesteading aspect felt like the perfect way to honor both of them while giving back to the RV community they had come to cherish. After acquiring the land in 2022, Troy and Tonja began shaping Firefly Hills into a place where guests instantly feel like part of the community.
With Troy crafting welcoming spaces and Tonja dreaming up meaningful touches that made the park feel different from anywhere they had stayed, Firefly Hills began to grow. Together, they created a place where strangers become friends, families slow down, and everyone belongs.
We invite you and your family to explore the beauty of Kentucky and the Red River Gorge area.
Relax or set off on adventures as you reconnect with what matters most. Stroll our hiking trails, pick fresh produce from the garden, help gather eggs from the chickens, visit the animals, or wander through the orchard. Spend time fishing at the ponds, exploring the river, or simply slowing down and enjoying the peacefulness of the property.
In the evenings, gather at The Embers, our large community fire pit, to share stories, laugh, and meet new friends. Here, connection grows naturally, with nature, with each other, and with yourself.
Always Growing
The heart of Firefly Hills has always been about growth, creativity, and creating a place that inspires connection. We are constantly dreaming up new ways for guests to experience the property, enjoy the outdoors, and spend meaningful time together.
Our play spaces continue to evolve as we add new opportunities for kids to climb, build, explore, get messy, and use their imaginations. Childhood thrives here, and one of our favorite things is watching our youngest guests head into the woods with curiosity and confidence.
Blossom Hall has also become an important part of Firefly Hills. Our indoor gathering and event space hosts weddings, celebrations, community events, and other special occasions. When it is not being used for a private event, it offers guests another place to gather, play games, relax, and spend time together.
Weddings at Firefly Hills have added a wonderful new chapter to our story. Couples can exchange vows surrounded by nature and celebrate with the people they love in a setting that feels relaxed, personal, and welcoming.
Our homesteading dreams continue to grow, too. Chickens, Indian Runner ducks, sheep, gardens, and orchards are all part of life here, giving guests opportunities to experience a little bit of farm life during their stay. And because we are always dreaming, there are likely to be a few more animals joining the Firefly Hills family along the way.
The addition of fifty acres has opened up an entirely new part of the property to explore. New hiking and mountain biking trails are taking shape, and guests now have access to the South Fork of the Kentucky River for swimming, kayaking, or simply spending a quiet afternoon by the water.
There is always something growing, changing, or being dreamed up at Firefly Hills. Some projects are big, some are small, and some begin simply because we think, “Wouldn't it be fun if...?”
That spirit has shaped Firefly Hills from the beginning, and we do not see it changing anytime soon.
A Community for All
Firefly Hills is more than a place to park your RV or spend a few nights away. It is a community intentionally created for families, friends, camping groups, full time and part time travelers, and anyone looking for a place where kindness, connection, and belonging matter.
Whether you come to explore the Red River Gorge, gather with people you love, spend time outdoors, or simply slow down for a while, we hope you feel at home here.
This is a place built from love, rooted in legacy, and shaped by the belief that community makes everything more meaningful.

The Snowden Farmhouse
At the heart of Firefly Hills stands the Snowden Farmhouse, a home that has watched over this land for more than a century.
Archibald "Arch" and Nancy "Nan" Snowden built the farmhouse in 1924, although the Snowden family's connection to this land reaches back even further. The nearby family cemetery includes generations who predate the home, reminding us that this property has been a place of family and connection for a very long time.
Over the years, the farmhouse became known locally as the "Big White House." Family stories tell of large meals around the table, lively conversations on the front porch, and relatives gathering here for weekends, holidays, and extended stays. Local lore even says it was the first home in the county to have electricity, drawing neighbors who came after dark just to see the lights.
Since purchasing the property in 2022, we have been fortunate to hear stories from Snowden descendants and others who have been connected to the home. Those stories have helped us understand that we aren't simply owners of an old farmhouse. We are its current caretakers.
Today, the original hardwood floors and much of the home's beautiful trim remain, and the front porch is still a favorite place to sit, visit, and enjoy the view. In 2026, we were also able to reunite approximately 50 acres of the original Snowden homestead with the property, bringing Firefly Hills to nearly 90 acres.
As Firefly Hills grows, preserving the history of this land remains important to us. We hope to honor the people who came before us while creating a place where new families, friendships, and memories can continue to take root.
