Everything You Need, Plus Plenty to Explore
Amenities at Firefly Hills
Firefly Hills is more than a place to stay while you explore the Red River Gorge. Our 90 acre property is part campground, part farm, and part outdoor playground, with plenty to experience right here at Firefly Hills.
Spend the morning hiking or mountain biking our trails, fish one of our stocked ponds, visit the animals, let the kids explore our natural play areas, or challenge someone to a game of pickleball. Venture to another part of the property for river access and kayaking, or simply find a hammock or quiet spot and slow down for a while.
Our shared campground amenities are available to all registered Firefly Hills guests, whether you're staying at an RV site, in one of our RV rentals, or in the historic farmhouse. A few amenities are specific to certain accommodations, and we've noted those below.
Outdoor Recreation
-
Hiking Trails
Explore the Kentucky hills without ever leaving Firefly Hills. Our natural surface trails wind throughout the property, giving you plenty of opportunities for a morning walk, an afternoon hike, or simply a chance to wander through the woods. Trail conditions can vary depending on the weather.
-
Off Leash Dog Park
Four legged guests need room to explore too. Our 1+ acre fenced dog park gives your pup plenty of space to run, sniff, and play off leash. It's a great place to burn off some energy before settling in around the campfire.
-
Mountain Bike Trails
Bring your bike and explore Firefly Hills on two wheels. Our natural surface mountain bike trails travel through the property and offer another way to experience our 90 acres. Conditions and difficulty vary throughout the trail system, so ride according to your ability and current trail conditions.
-
Fishing
Bring your fishing poles and spend a quiet morning or afternoon at one of our two stocked ponds. Our ponds are home to a variety of fish, including bass, crappie, and bluegill. Fishing is available to all guests, so you can head down whenever the mood strikes.
-
River Access & Kayak Launching
Our river access gives you another way to experience the property. Bring your own kayak and launch directly from Firefly Hills, spend some time fishing, cool off by the water, or simply find a spot along the river to relax. River access and water activities are always dependent on current weather and water conditions.
-
9 Hole Disc Golf Course
Our newest outdoor amenity is a 9 hole disc golf course winding through the property. Coming fall 2026, it will give guests another way to get outside, explore the property, and enjoy a little friendly competition.
Natural Play & Recreation
-
Hidden Hangout
Our Hidden Hangout is designed for kids to climb, build, balance, imagine, and get a little dirty. They can tackle The Web, test their skills on the Ninja Course and slackline, build with logs, drive the log cars and tractor, climb aboard the sailboat, or create their own adventures around the pretend campfire.
-
Whimsical Woods
Tucked among the trees, Whimsical Woods encourages a different kind of play. Kids can create something in the mud kitchen, explore the fairy village, and let their imaginations turn the woods into whatever they dream up.
-
Hammock Circle
Tucked among the trees, Hammock Circle is a place to slow down and relax. Settle into one of the hammocks, read a book, or simply spend some time enjoying the outdoors.
-
Games & Sports
There's plenty of room for a little friendly competition. Play pickleball, basketball, or gaga ball outside, or head into Blossom Hall for ping pong and foosball.
Farm & Homestead
-
Meet the Animals
Firefly Hills is also a working homestead, so don't be surprised to encounter a few animals during your stay. Our sheep, laying hens, and Indian Runner ducks are part of everyday life around the property.
And then there's Ralph. Our friendly orange and white campground cat has appointed himself unofficial manager of Firefly Hills. He makes his rounds regularly and has been known to join guests on porches, campsites, and walks around the property.
-
Gardens & Orchard
Our gardens grow a variety of vegetables, herbs, and flowers throughout the season, and guests are welcome to wander through, see what’s growing, and help themselves to whatever is ready to harvest.
Our orchard and perennial plantings include peach and pear trees, crab apples, raspberries, and blackberries. When they’re in season, guests are welcome to enjoy those too.
Our hens also keep us supplied with farm fresh eggs, which are available for purchase during your stay. As with anything grown or raised on the farm, availability depends on the season and what Mother Nature provides.
Places to Gather, Play & Slow Down
-
Blossom Hall
Blossom Hall is our indoor gathering and event space. When it isn’t being used for a private event, registered guests can enjoy board games, puzzles, ping pong, and foosball. It’s especially nice to have somewhere to go when the weather changes your outdoor plans.
-
Community Campfires
One of our favorite parts of camping is gathering around a fire. We periodically host community campfires where guests can meet their neighbors, share stories, and spend an evening together.
-
Hammocks, Swings, & Benches
You’ll find hammocks, swings, and benches tucked throughout the property, giving you plenty of places to stop and enjoy your surroundings. Grab a book, watch the kids play, take an afternoon nap, enjoy the view, or simply sit for a while and take in the Kentucky hills.
-
Little Free Library
Forgot your book or finished the one you brought? Browse our Little Free Library for something new. Take a book, leave a book, or find a quiet spot on the property and settle in for a while.
-
The Thinking Spot
Need a little time to yourself? The Thinking Spot is a quiet place tucked away on the property where you can sit, slow down, and enjoy the surroundings. You'll find a jar filled with questions and prompts to give you something to ponder, reflect on, or journal about while you're there. Or simply sit, listen to the sounds around you, and enjoy having nowhere else you need to be.
-
Stargazing & Fireflies
The show doesn't end when the sun goes down. Our rural location and low light pollution make Firefly Hills a wonderful place to look up and enjoy the night sky.
And during firefly season, remember to look around you too. On warm summer evenings, fireflies light up the fields and woods throughout the property, creating a different kind of light show right here at Firefly Hills.
Bathhouse & Laundry
-
Private Bathrooms & Showers
Our bathhouse has three completely private bathrooms, each with its own toilet, sink, and shower. You'll also find a stool and plenty of hooks for clothes and towels, and the heated floors are especially appreciated on chilly mornings.
One of our bathrooms is ADA accessible. The bathhouse is available to all registered guests in the RV park.
-
Laundry
Washers and dryers are located inside the bathhouse and available to all registered guests. Our machines use the ClearToken app, so there's no need to save quarters. Add credit through the app, receive a notification when your laundry is finished, and cash out any unused credit when you're done.
Farm Store
-
Local Food & Goods
Supporting local farmers, makers, and small businesses is important to us, so our farm store is filled with products from throughout the area. Our selection changes with the seasons, but you may find locally raised beef, pork and chicken, homemade bread, locally roasted coffee, honey, syrup, tea, hot sauce, spices, chocolate, ice cream, and other Kentucky made foods.
We also carry locally made jewelry, hiking sticks, books written by fellow RVers, and laundry detergent for those loads that can't wait until you get home.
-
Firefly Hills Swag
Want something to remember your stay? Stop in for Firefly Hills T-shirts, hats, stickers, drinkware, and other merchandise. Whether you're looking for a souvenir from your Red River Gorge adventure or just want to show a little Firefly Hills love, you'll find plenty to choose from.
Our farm store is self serve, so you can stop in and shop at your convenience during your stay.
WiFi & RV Site Amenities
-
Fiber WiFi | All Guests
Complimentary fiber WiFi is available to all registered guests throughout Firefly Hills and is great for everyday browsing, checking email, planning your next Red River Gorge adventure, and staying connected.
Need a little more speed for streaming or other high bandwidth activities? An upgraded WiFi option is also available for purchase during your stay.
-
Full Hookup RV Sites | RV Sites
All 15 RV sites include 50 amp electric service, water, and sewer and are designed with larger rigs in mind. Each back-in site has plenty of room to settle in, along with a concrete patio and large round picnic table for enjoying your outdoor space.
Electricity is individually metered, so you pay for the electricity you actually use rather than having an average electrical cost built into your nightly rate.
-
Premium Sites with Casitas | Select RV Sites
Looking for a little extra space? Our premium RV sites include a private, climate controlled 12 x 16 casita right at your campsite.
Use your casita for relaxing, working, reading, playing games, or simply spreading out beyond the RV. It's an especially nice addition for longer stays or anyone who appreciates having a little extra space during their camping trip.
-
Accessible Camping | Select RV Sites
Two of our RV sites are conveniently located near the bathhouse, laundry, and farm store and are designed to make navigating the campground easier for guests with mobility needs.
