Firefly Hills Volunteer Campers

Hi, we are Troy & Tonja Lesmeister. Travel has always been a big part of our lives, and for several years we explored full time with our son Neyo in our fifth wheel RV. Those years of road life deepened our love for adventure and inspired the creation of Firefly Hills.

During our travels, we often found ourselves missing parts of our former sticks and bricks life, like a strong sense of community, the chance to grow and raise our own food, and a place to take care of maintenance and projects. We soon realized many of our traveling friends felt the same way.

That is what inspired us to create Firefly Hills, a place where travelers can find connection, share skills, and enjoy hands on homesteading experiences, all while having access to the practical amenities that make life on the road easier.

Now, after a few wonderful years of welcoming guests and growing this community, we continue to invite others to join us and be part of the Firefly Hills story.

Have you ever had a dream so big that help was needed to realize it?

The Plan

Firefly Hills is a new and growing RV and glamping park with 15 RV sites, designed to be highly automated and welcoming to individuals and families from all backgrounds. We cater to full time RV families, digital nomads, and traveling professionals. Guests can experience homesteading through gardening, caring for chickens, and learning food preservation, all with a focus on building community.

We are an inclusive community for anyone who loves the outdoors. Our goal is to create a space where everyone feels welcome and safe to enjoy nature, regardless of gender identity, age, race, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability, ethnicity, language, or religion. We celebrate the diversity and unique perspectives that each person brings, enriching the Firefly Hills experience.

Located in Eastern Kentucky near Beattyville and just south of Red River Gorge, our 38 acre property is a 100 year old former tobacco farm bordered by the Kentucky River. It features two stocked fishing ponds, wooded trails, a gaga ball pit, pickleball, a vegetable garden, and an orchard.

As a work camper at Firefly Hills, you will enjoy free high speed WiFi, access to laundry, and farm fresh eggs and produce from our garden and orchard.

Nearby activities include rock climbing, hiking, off road ATV adventures, river and underground kayaking, fishing, zip lining, live local music, and farm to table dining.
