The Story of Firefly Hills — A Place Built From Love and Legacy
Firefly Hills is more than an RV park in Kentucky. It is the heart project of a family who chose to live life fully, honor their roots, and create a community where everyone belongs.
A Journey That Started With a Road Map and a Dream
In 2020, Tonja and Troy set off across the United States in their RV with their youngest son and a spirit of adventure. They wandered through national parks, quiet towns, and wide open spaces, all while teaching their son from the road and learning from the people they met along the way.
During their travels, Tonja’s mother passed away unexpectedly after a short illness. With both parents gone at a young age, Tonja and Troy felt the weight of a legacy filled with hard work and little time to enjoy the peace they had earned. They knew they wanted to build something that truly honored that legacy. Something rooted in family, community, and the belief that life is meant to be lived with intention and joy.
Tonja’s dad gave her a deep love for the outdoors, while her mom had a natural gift for loving people well. An RV park that embraced community, belonging, and a homesteading spirit felt like the perfect way to honor both of them.
Creating a Place Where Everyone Belongs
In 2022, Tonja and Troy found the land that would become Firefly Hills. From the beginning, they imagined a place where guests would immediately feel welcome. Troy poured his craftsmanship into creating inviting spaces, while Tonja added thoughtful touches that made the park feel warm and personal. Together, they shaped Firefly Hills into a destination where strangers become friends, families slow down, and everyone feels at home.
Visitors can wander the trails, enjoy fresh produce from the garden, gather eggs with the chickens, stroll the orchard, or relax by the large community fire pit known as The Embers. Every corner of Firefly Hills is designed to bring people together and create moments that matter.
Looking Toward the Future
Firefly Hills continues to grow in beautiful ways. The kid spaces evolve with each season, offering new opportunities for imaginative play. Little adventurers can enjoy a slack line, expanded mud kitchen areas, and natural spaces where curiosity thrives.
Blossom Hall, the rec room, is transforming into a warm and inviting indoor venue. It will host weddings, celebrations, and gatherings while remaining open for guests to enjoy when events are not taking place. Families will have a comfortable indoor place to relax, play games, and spend time together.
Beginning in 2026, Firefly Hills will officially welcome couples who want to say their vows in a setting filled with nature, creativity, and a genuine sense of belonging. With the farmhouse for getting ready, multiple ceremony locations, and the full property for celebration, weddings here will be intimate and unforgettable.
The homesteading dreams continue to flourish as well. New farm animals will soon join the Firefly Hills family, bringing hands-on experiences and sweet moments for guests of all ages.
And with the recent addition of fifty acres, the possibilities are endless. Firefly Hills will soon offer river access for cooling off, swimming, and peaceful kayaking. New hiking and mountain biking trails are on the way too. This land opens the door to even more adventure and connection with the natural world.
Firefly Hills is a living, growing place shaped by creativity, community, and a deep love for the outdoors. The story continues, and we cannot wait to share all that is coming next.
A Community Built With Heart
Firefly Hills is intentionally created for families, friends, camping groups, and travelers seeking kindness and belonging. It is a place built from love, rooted in legacy, and shaped by the belief that community makes every moment more meaningful.
